Lenovo ThinkRevolution + New Workstation = Future of Making Things

As I was unable to attend AU this year I, unfortunately, missed out on my yearly sit down with Lenovo where they show me everything new and exciting in the world of Lenovo. However, I still wanted to share some of the “big” news that came out at AU.

“What do you do if you want to build a bridge? You’d do research, look at what’s been done before, compare and contrast designs, ideas and materials, and draw inspiration from existing structures. You’d likely work within the limitations of what’s already been done around you.”

“But if you’re MX3D, you turn design on its head and completely change the way we design, make, and build structures using generative design and 3D printing in steel to remove the historical constraints across design and construction.” – Rob Herman (Lenovo)

New ThinkStation

Lenovo announced the new ThinkStation P520 and compact P520c tower workstations. These include “intense” speeds of up to 4.5GHz and up to 18-cores for massive computer power. These new systems represent Lenovo’s new family of mainstream single (Xeon W) processor CPU workstations.

Made for the architects, designers, and engineers these new systems provide the right balance of high-clock speed for single-threaded CAD apps and multiple cores for multi-threaded computer tasks like simulation, rendering, and VR workflows.

“In order to effectively explore our coral reefs through 3D mapping, our team requires powerful hardware that can travel anywhere with us,” says Dr. Erika Woolsey, co-founder and CEO of The Hydrous. “So, you’ll see us bring our Lenovo mobile workstations on every expedition. These reliable, rugged machines give us the flexibility to render 3D models, track GPS coordinates and review reality capture footage after dives before we even step off the boat.”

DESIGN THAT DELIVERS ON-THE-GO POWER AND PERFORMANCE:

  • Lenovo’s thinnest and lightest quad-core mobile workstation ever [4.3lbs (1.95kg), 14.4” x 0.79” x 9.95” (WxDxH)]
  • 8th Gen Intel Core processors and first-to-market with the NVIDIA Quadro P500 graphics
  • Up to 32GB DDR4 @ 2400MHz, 2 SODIMM slots
  • Power Bridge Technology offers hot-swappable double-digit battery life (4 cell (32WHr) front + up to 6 cell (72WHr) rear)
