Any Autodesk Inventor user who has spent time creating drawings will be familiar with the frustrations of non-sequential identifiers for view labels. You know what I’m talking about; you create a few views, delete one or two, create a few more and so on and so on. Then you have to go back through all of them and change the label letters back to A,B,C,D,E etc. Not just irritating, but a huge time-waster.

When a view is created, the Index that keeps track of the view letter is incremented by one. Unfortunately, when you delete a view, the index is not decremented. This means that the index will continue to increase for every view that has EVER been placed in a drawing.

To deal with this frustrating behaviour, I built an app called ‘CPS View Relabeller’ for Inventor that iterates through all the views in your drawing and labels them sequentially. This app has been published in the Inventor App Exchange Store, which you can find a link to on the “Welcome Screen” in Inventor. You can also follow this link: CPS View Relabeller

One of the users who bought it asked for a modification to exclude certain letters to get it to comply with the ISO drawing standard. It has been rebuilt to include this change and is available for Inventor 2013 and 2014.

The app costs $4.99 USD. Hopefully the time it saves you will make this a worthwhile buy.
