Autodesk Inventor 2012 has a really great tool in place for when you need to take a group of components in an assembly, and combine them into a sub-assembly on the fly.
- Select all the components you wanted in a sub-assembly.
- Navigate through the context-menu to components, and pick Demote from the bottom of the list.
You will be prompted for which template to use along the way.
The entire group will be assembled in a sub-assembly and placed back into the host assembly.
*Note – Be mindful of you assembly constraints after completing this task, as some may need attention.
