Autodesk kicked off it’s 2012 product lines today with a special webcast hosted by Amar Hanspal. The company is focusing on design industry workflows with suites, packaged products that work together to help professionals meet their needs. These packages are not a new concept, as we saw some of this last year, but not across the entire fleet of products.

  • Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Factory Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Building Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Plant Design Suite 2012
  • Autodesk Creation Design Suite 2012

Additionally, the Autodesk will tier their products according to how much power you actually need (and how much moolah you are willing to part with). The breakdowns are Standard, Premium, and Ultimate.  These are said to offer reduced package pricing, but for those on subscription, I do not know what net benefit will be realized.

A few notable points for this cycle are:

  • Suites will be delivered on thumb drives
  • More Multi-processor support in some products, enabling faster startups and view regeneration
  • Inventor Fusion has emerged as a commercial product
  • Autodesk and Granta Design Ltd. Partnership offers the Eco Material Advisor
  • More use and support of Autodesk Vault
  • Inventor loses their Routed, Simulation, and Tooling suite packages for Standard and Professional
  • Alias Freeform models integrated into Inventor and Fusion
